Good Cookin’ in Brownsville June 2023

ABCTX was ecstatic at the opportunity to support The ECC Summer Camp in Brownsville, TX. with ECC Grant funds for groceries and games during the 4 day event.  

Carlos Martinez, TVI at BISD had this to say about the camp:

This event consisted of preparing a shopping list for various simple meals to make. They cooked the meals with as much assistance as was necessary and then enjoyed the food. They followed up by cleaning up, themselves. They also participated in an art project by making their own dream catcher. A project that taught them knot skills and threading techniques.

They got to experience a trip to Bass Pro Shops with another school district, allowing students to explore a very interesting store and allowed them to participate in a scavenger hunt that had them finding prices, items to take pictures with, etc.

Students practiced safe Orientation and Mobility skills while walking on sidewalks and crossing streets. Students practiced riding the city bus using city passes and cash.

Students learned to use a credit card and cash during a sit-down meal at Main Event and had to place their own orders and participate in recreation at the location.

Students ended the 4 day event by enjoying their time in pool.
