Camp Rock On 2023

ABCTX is proud to support events like "Camp Rock On" in El Paso, TX. Richard Torres is everything we love about teachers of the visually impaired. We were excited to provide him with the ECC Grant. Here is what he had to say about the event:

blind students and TVI's stand on the shoreline, casting fishing lines into the water.blind students stand in a big commercial kitchen before starting to cook.

I would like to thank All Blind Children of Texas for supporting "Camp Rock On", which is a yearly two-week summer camp for students who are blind or visually impaired residing within the Region 19 (El Paso and Hudspeth Counties) areas. Your financial support was instrumental in supporting our mission /vision which is to provide core guidance and services for the educational success of every student.

This year our camp was held June 19-29, 2023, with an emphasis on the Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC) which are concepts and skills that require specialized instruction for students who are blind or visually impaired in order to compensate for decreased opportunities to learn incidentally by observing others. Some of this year's camp activities included: an interactive learning activity with gears, robotics and Legos; a visit to a local ice cream shop to learn how ice cream is made; fishing and outdoor games at a local park; preparing a formal meal for parents under the direction of a chef; a day of swimming at a local waterpark; lessons on grooming and hygiene; woodworking; a visit to a local pizza restaurant; an outdoor picnic; orientation and mobility activities; and the use of assistive technology devices.

Once again, our campers were able to apply and improve on Expanded Core Curriculum skills and concepts during camp thanks to the generosity and support of All Blind Children of Texas. Thank you so much for partnering with us and for your support and contribution.

Sincerely,
