Billy Brookshire Steps Down from ABCTX Board After 19 Years of Incredible Service
Our Great Friend Billy Brookshire
It is impossible to express what a great influence Billy Brookshire’s personality has been as he served on the board of ABCTX since our beginning in 2004. Often, when the board faced a difficult decision, Billy was the one who would say, “now wait a minute” and give us an entirely different way to view an issue. Billy was never forceful, but always had his thoughts together and was able to explain his opinion. His position on an issue was always for whatever would be best for the future of the blind and visually impaired students we serve.
The biographical sketch of Billy on this website under the header “Our Board of Directors” provides an overview of his prestigious career and professional accomplishments. Billy loves all kinds of music and is an authority on the history of Austin and the surrounding area. Each day, Billy posts a positive or thoughtful email to a huge list of fans. His kindness is his greatest attribute. The main thing many of us love about Billy Brookshire is that he didn’t work in the field of blindness just to have a job, he genuinely cares for those of us who are blind or visually impaired. His respect is obvious in the way he interacts with anyone who has vision loss. The Board of ABCTX has been privileged to have had Billy on our team for 18 years. Thank you Billy for all the time you have given to us. You will be sorely missed but we wish you all the best on your future endeavors. We know they will be better because of your involvement!
